A plumber from Leicestershire who was grafting away, fitting bathrooms and signing as he worked has landed a record deal after the owner of the property - who just happens to own a record company - heard him and offered him a contract on the spot. Kev Crane, 49, was singing along to the radio as he worked (unconfirmed reports it was tuned to Fix Radio - The Builder’s Station) - when the owner of the property, Paul Conneally, overheard the talented tradesman and the two began talking about music. As it turns out, Paul runs a record label called New Reality Records, and the plumber has now released an 80’s inspired album called “Why Can’t I Be You?”, in a potential first step of a career-change. Speaking to the BBC, home-owner Paul said “I heard Kev singing as he worked.” ”He sings along to the radio all day as he tiles and plumbs in bathrooms. I told him he had a good voice and he mentioned he'd been writing and recording songs in his home studio.” "He sent me some songs and I was blown away by his songwriting and his attention to detail in producing a sound that is so 80s but so now at the same time.” The 49-year-old bathroom fitter was more surprised than anyone at the unusual series of events, saying "It just feels surreal. I never expected anything like this to happen. I love writing music. It's my hobby.” "When I went round to give Paul a quote, he mentioned he owned a record label but I didn't really think much of it.” So next time your on the tools and a classic comes on, don’t be afraid to let loose and belt it out - you never know who might be listening!
