It’s one of the most polarising haircuts on the face of the planet but as a bald man writing this article I can only praise Belgian truck driver Nicolas Vanderkelen, who can strut around now and tell people that his incredible haircut has officially been crowned ‘The World’s Best Mullet’. The 2021 Mullet Cup - yes that’s a thing - was held in the French village of Cheniers over the weekend, with more than 500 people turning up to take part in the festival that celebrates the haircut that was made famous in the 80’s. Jubilant scenes were captured after the truck driver took out the crown, with Kool & The Gang’s ‘Celebration’ playing in the background as he celebrated his victory. Nicolas has been growing out his hair in this style for 20 years and when interviewed said his mullet isn't just a hairstyle but “it is a way of life”. As reported by The Daily Star, one festival-goer explained that the mullet represents more than just an unusual look, saying “We don't care about other people's looks, about fashion, there is no typical look to have.” “Whether it's skin colour, gender, clothing, haircut, we want everyone to be perceived the same way.” "And this is kind of the pinnacle, we all agree. It's a mule's paradise." (H/T Daily Star) Feature Image Credit: Stills from No Comment TV Youtube/AFP GETTY
