Throwback: Selco Pranks Tradespeople With Fake Parking Tickets

Posted: Wednesday, December 1st, 2021

Here at Fix Radio we’ve been seeing loads of stories recently of tradespeople pranking each other as we approach the festive part of the year and we thought we’d look back to one of the more ‘innocent’ pranks pulled off by builders merchant Selco, and their infamous fake parking ticket prank.

Knowing full well that tradespeople all over the UK share the same anger and frustration of getting back to their van only to find they’ve been nicked by a parking ranger, Selco saw it as a great PR opportunity to launch their new Cricklewood store in 2019.

The merchants had a bloke dress up in high-vis and place bight yellow parking infringement notices on the vehicles of unassuming builders as they ran into Selco to get supplies.

The convincing tickets managed to fool a fair share of tradespeople when they returned to their vehicles, only for them to realise when turning over the ticket that it was indeed a fake, and actually represented a £50 voucher to be spent at Selco.

The prank was part of the official opening of the new Cricklewood branch on JVC Business Park, Priestley Way.

Selco also marked the occasion of the relocation by donating £800 to local charities, as chosen by four customers who completed a 0.8mile cycle the fastest on a static bike.

Well played Selco!
