Adam Fillis aka Tricky Bricky and Harrison Elliott aka Benchin' Bricky join Izzy The Bricky to chat about challenges, aspects of the trade they enjoy, the future of bricklaying, and the impact of social media. For Fillis the best part of bricklaying is designing and building garden walls. Elliott who works on sites says that his favourite bit of the job is "being outside with the boys", especially in the summer. The winters are a challenge for bricklayers in general. Elliot says snow is not much of an issue in the South West of the country where he's based but wind and rain can be bad. Fillis agrees, "The wind is a bit of an issue during winters in Essex." The pair also review the year gone by. Elliott notes that in January 2023 he took on an apprentice and a couple more during the year. "Watching them progress and grow has been good to see." Fillis travelled a lot in 2023 across the UK. "Work took me to Wales, Southampton, up to Scotland, and all over the place." They also talked about how the drop in construction activity has impacted their jobs. They're hoping the new year changes things economically. Listen to the podcast here.
