On this week's The Electrical Show, Thomas Nagy and Paul Meenan discuss blacklisting of electrical contractors. According to Meenan, electricians have been blacklisted for raising issues on health and safety, especially with big contractors. Paul equates blacklisting to bullying or the person in question must be really incompetent on the job. He notes that site bullying and blacklisting destroys people. The pair discussed instances of blacklisting and what can be done. "The main reason for blacklisting is down to safety and work ethic," Thomas suggests. Paul likes to think it's more of a "conflict avoid" thing and cancel culture. He adds: "Blacklisting is a huge deterrent for people to stand up and do the right thing. It continues to normalise deviant behaviour that we have in the construction trades." Paul's advice to the listeners is: "Be consciously aware of your behaviours and other people's. Be respectful. Don't let others rile you up." Should electricians live in fear over raising a safety concern, asks Thomas. He urges anyone who is blacklisted or knows of someone who is to write to studio@fixradio.co.uk to share their story. Learn more about blacklisting by listening to the whole show here.
