SR Timber donates batten to colleges across the country

Posted: Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024

SR Timber has donated over 4,000 linear metres of timber roofing batten to roof slating and tiling apprentices in colleges across the UK this year as the business commits to assisting the next generation of roofing contractors, RCI Mag reported.

Over 10,000 linear metres of timber were donated to eight colleges offering relevant roofing apprenticeships in 2023.

So far this year, four training providers, including Leeds College of Building, South Lancashire College, Rooftrain Melksham, and South West Roofing Training Group in Exeter, have received or are about to receive timber donations.

Shaun Revill, trading director of SR Timber, said: “Investing in the next generation of roofing contractors is essential for the business. These apprentices are the future of our industry, and we need more of them to consider this industry as a future career.

“Once on an apprenticeship programme, educating on the benefits of using a correctly graded roofing batten that adheres to British Standards BS 5534 is vital.

“So, when we are approached by colleges running these training courses, we have always been happy to supply our Premium Gold, a correctly graded roofing batten with which apprentice roofers can work. We have been doing it for years and will continue to help, and it is our investment in the future.”
