SELCO donates materials worth ‘hundreds’ to SkillBuild

Posted: Tuesday, July 9th, 2024

The builders’ merchant’s Dudley branch has donated hundreds of pounds of materials for SkillBuild's regional heat.

The top young tradespeople in the UK tested their skills in different disciplines, including bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, and plastering, to qualify for the national final.

The materials donated by Selco included concrete blocks, Thermalite Blocks and engineering bricks.

Alison Wong, head of communications and sustainability for Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “We're delighted to have supported SkillBuild through materials which enabled the competitors to showcase their skills.

“It’s a platform for the next generation of tradespeople to shine and make a name for themselves by reaching the national final.

“We were happy to play a small part in helping the regional heat of this prestigious competition run smoothly.”

The donation is SELCO’s latest demonstration of support for young tradespeople. It follows a partnership with six colleges across the UK, which provides students on trade and construction courses with materials and visits to branches to learn more about how a builders merchant works

Rob Smith of Dudley College said: “We are extremely grateful to Selco for their support to our Dudley regional heat.

“The competition is very much appreciated by all young tradespeople eligible to compete, but we can only stage such a high-profile event with the support of companies such as Selco.”
