On today's Plastering Show, Chris Frediani and Bradleigh caught up with Alan Arbuthnot, a renderer and plasterer from Leicestershire, to talk about problem-solving. To kick it off, Alan said: "When I was 10 metres off the ground recently, that was challenging. I'm nearly 50 and not being funny but it was difficult just getting up there. I felt like I'd done a day's work by the time I got there." With regard to the plastering itself, Alan says: "You've got to decision make on every job you do, and if you don't get that right you're going to fail. But for us, the biggest factor is the weather - not just rain but heat, sun and rain. You need to plan ahead, and if you don't do that, you're bound to fail." Alan does over 50 types of finishes, but says he takes pride in everything he does. But sometimes what customers say they want can be challenging "because they just haven't thought about whether the finish is right for their property. That can be tricky." "But," he adds "as long as you've got the necessary knowledge, you're always going to be in a position to offer them the right solution, and that will make them happy, at the end of the day."
