Speaking to Andy Cam and Todd Glister on The Heating & Plumbing Show, Dan Tempest reveals that his biggest regret is not "finding the correct work and home life balance" for many years. Dan has three daughters, and after spending time with them during the COVID lockdown, he learned what he'd been missing. "They are all moments that you can't get back. There's much more to life than work." Today, he makes a conscious effort to spend more time with his family. He also regrets not learning to say 'no' earlier to clients/ projects. "You have to be able to say 'no'. There has to come a point where you draw a line and say, 'No, I'm going home to my wife and kids', and that's it." Another aspect of the business he wishes he'd known earlier is not getting "dragged in the race to the bottom". He argues that charging clients the proper amount for the job is critical. "After paying all the expenses, you make a wage, not a profit." Dan notes a tendency to take on every job regardless of the low price offered. "It shouldn't be that way. You might as well work for someone else and let them take all the stress."
