Paul Meenan and Fix Radio's own John Isherwood (standing in for Thomas Nagy) look at tool and van theft and how it's affecting people across the country. They are joined by sparkie Tony York and MP Greg Smith. Basildon-based Tony York, from Yorkman Electrical Services has had multiple van break-ins costing the business almost £40,000 in the past five years alone. He says: "Our first break-in cleared us out of everything we owned. It destroyed us. Two years later, we had four vans broken into in a space of six months." He adds that it's not just the monetary loss, tool thefts affected them mentally too. To tackle this issue, York has got mental cages installed in the back of his vans welded to the chassis with a double lock and an alarm. York believes the authorities aren't doing enough. "If offenders are caught and given prison sentences it may deter others from doing it." Buckingham MP Greg Smith says he's put tool thefts on the agenda in the House of Commons in the form of The Equipment Theft (Prevention) Bill. He argues that thefts can be prevented through forensic markings on tools. Listen to the podcast here.
