Glasgow-based McTaggart Construction is building the new developments which are a mix of houses, bungalows, and cottage flats. The Glenacre Drive site will see 16 houses made up of eight x 1-bedroom, seven x 2-bedroom, and one x 4-bedroom. Three of the homes at this site will be wheelchair accessible. The Petersburn Road site will see 40 residences in total made up of four x 1-bedroom, 25 x 2-bedroom, eight x 3-bedroom and three x 4-bedroom homes, of which 13 will be wheelchair accessible. Councillor Brannan-Mcvey said that the new residences are designed and “built to the highest standard and are highly energy efficient” as the council is “embracing renewable technologies and building greener”. The council has several housing projects underway across the Airdrie area, including within the town centre. Both new developments are supported by a funding contribution from the Scottish Government. The project is part of the council’s new supply programme which aims to build 5,000 new homes by 2035. Gary Climson, chairman, McTaggart Construction, added: “We are delighted to be delivering these projects on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council.”
