Fellow roofers Alex Burman and Oliver Blake join Danny Madden to describe how they source materials, the relationships they've built with merchants, and their allegiances to tool brands and materials. Oliver runs his family business Blake's Roofing Specialist and covers all aspects of roofing. When it comes to sourcing materials, Oliver mostly goes to his local merchant in Harrow for all his supply requirements, but with jobs taking him all over London, he's built good relationships with merchants around the capital. Oliver's advice to roofers is to build relationships with merchants so they can get a "bit of credit going" as supplies and tools can be quite expensive. "Get the work done and go pay for the materials afterwards. I did that at the start of my business." Alex aka The Valley Viking focuses on structural roofing, his approach to getting materials is also sourced from local merchants. "All my jobs are within a 30-minute radius of where I'm based. "So, I use the same merchant in different locations, and I've built good relationships with the managers. This way I get better prices and any last-minute materials I may require." Both Oliver and Alex share their tool for tools - especially power tools. "The amount of money I've spent over the years [on tools], I probably could've paid off my mortgage," Alex confesses.
