Housing scheme for elderly to resume as new builder hired

Posted: Friday, April 5th, 2024

Work has resumed on a housing scheme for over 55-year-olds as a new builder has been hired to take over the project, Warrington Guardian reported.

Livv Housing Group’s Sandymoor scheme is being built in partnership with Homes England.

But after Thelwall-based company, Lane End Developments entered administration 12 months ago, the project ground to a halt. Now, Livv Housing Group has hired a new contractor Leedexx to complete the project.

The development will see 44 one and two-bedroom apartments built in Otterburn Street and five two-bed bungalows in Pitts Heath Lane – which will be rented out to people over the age of 55.

“I have been pressing for activity at this location for some time and progress stalled when the previous builder went into administration,” said Mike Amesbury, MP for Weaver Vale.

“Following intervention with Homes England and the housing provider, it is great to see things moving forward.

After Stockport Road firm Lane End entered administration, housing schemes across the north west faced delays.

“Residents have been waiting for more than 12 months,” said Cllr Mike Ryan. “I appreciate there has been a lot of effort by Livv Housing, which has managed to get it back on track.

The scheme will be built adjacent to Sandymoor retail centre, which features a Co-op as well as a bakery and restaurant.

“This should be an area buzzing with people, and at the minute it is buzzing with builders,” said Neil Connolly, a Labour council candidate for the area.
