London-based gas engineer Shoaib Awan is raising £10,000 to bring a long-standing issue to public and government attention for the second time with a convoy of vans heading to Parliament Square. Trades United will lead a second van rally in Westminster to combat tool theft on Monday, 3 February 2025, at Brent Cross to Parliament Square, Westminster, from 11:00am to 12:00pm. The funds raised will go 100% towards organising and setting up the demonstration against vehicle and tool theft. Statistics show that a work van is broken into every nine minutes, resulting in substantial damage to the vehicle and loss of work tools. This, in turn, has a more significant impact on the ability to work going forward. On his Just Giving page, Shoaib said, “We need the government to come forward and support and protect hard-working tradespeople and their livelihoods by implementing the law this country has regarding theft. The Theft Act of 1968 enforced strict punishments and penalties for these criminals.” This demonstration aims to amplify the call for stronger deterrents against thieves and more effective measures to combat the sale of stolen tools. Tradespeople and supporters are encouraged to participate in this critical event and make their voices heard. Over £6,500 has been raised so far. To donate to the cause, click here.
