A National Federation of Builders manager is standing in the forthcoming Runcorn & Helsby byelection. Sean Houlston, head of membership and digital services at the National Federation of Builders (NFB) is the Conservative candidate in standing for Parliament in the Runcorn & Helsby byelection, due to be held on Thursday 1st May 2025. The byelection has been called following the resignation of Labour MP Mike Amesbury after he was convicted of assault. The Conservatives are a distant third with the bookies with Reform odds-on favourite to take the seat from Labour, overturning a 15,000 majority. Were Houlston to upset the odds, there would be mixed feelings at NFB headquarters in Cheshire. Chief executive Richard Beresford said: “Sean is a great member of the NFB team, and we know how passionate he is about local politics, which is why we are pleased to personally support him. While the NFB does not back one party over another, we know Sean to be a hard worker, a dedicated individual and in our experience, he is enthusiastic about anything her puts his mind to – he would make a great MP. If the good people of Runcorn & Helsby decide to elect him, we would be very sad to see him go but know that our loss would be their gain.”
