AUDIO NEWS: UK housing retrofit will cost £118bn and tradesperson fined for naming and shaming client

Posted: Sunday, March 30th, 2025

It’s going to cost £118 billion to make UK homes energy efficient by 2030 — that’s according to research from Impact Data Metrics.

The report estimates it will cost between £6,000-to-£11,000 per house to upgrade to an EPC C rating or better.

By 2030, private landlords are required to make all properties EPC C rated. Retrofitting work could cost the country’s landlords between £6-12 billion.

Geoff Wainwright, chief executive of IDM said the data highlighted the size of the challenge ahead if the country is to meet its net zero commitments.

An electrician has been fined after ‘naming and shaming’ a client over an unpaid bill on Facebook.

Jon Peacock, an electrician based in Jersey, made the original post in 2023, including photos of his client and details of the payment dispute.

Despite being told that he was under investigation by Jersey Data Protection Authority, Peacock continued to make insulting posts about the client.

In a statement the authority said: “It is not acceptable to... publicly shame clients on Facebook as a means of prompting payment.”
