AUDIO NEWS: Tax loophole allows tradespeople to claim ULEZ fees and Monopoly Construction Edition launched

Posted: Tuesday, August 29th, 2023

A tax loophole may allow tradespeople in London to claim back their daily ULEZ charges.

On Monday the Financial Times reported that The Greater London Authority said self-employed workers would be able to claim back the £12.5 charge as part of their tax return.

Drivers will be able to do this if their journey was “an exceptional trip, solely for business”, the paper reported.

HRMC added that employees would also be entitled to tax relief on charges if they drive in the zone as part of their work.

High mortgage rates are pushing more than a third of homeowners to postpone plans to sell, and instead invest in their existing properties – that’s according to recent poll from MyBuyilder.com.

The expected growth in demand for repair, maintenance and improvement work will further exacerbate the sector’s skill crisis.

Andy Simms, from MyBuilders.com warned homeowners must move fast if they want to secure their preferred tradesperson.

He added: “New research suggests that the demand for tradespeople in the UK could now outstrip supply even more”.

And finally, the popular board game, Monopoly, has a construction edition.

Put together by Construction Index and toy maker Hasbro, the construction edition has six custom-made playing pieces, such as a JCB backhoe loader and Komatsu dumper truck.

Rather than build a property portfolio, players will now compete to create their own construction empire.
