AUDIO NEWS: Skills shortage remains biggest obstacle to growth and landscaper finds WWII bomb

The shortage of skilled electricians remains the biggest obstacle to growth for electrical contractors – that’s according to the latest Building Engineering Business Survey. 

Nearly 40% of respondents in the industry poll complained about the significant shortage of skilled electricians.

The quarterly survey, conducted in partnership by several trade groups, shows that the skills shortage has been a constant issue for the last 36 months. 

Andrew Eldred, ECA chief operating officer said “the only way we can sustain our workforce with quality skilled labour is to train them ourselves.”

A plumber’s family has launched an appeal for help, after £5,000 worth of tools were stolen from the back of his van. 

Daniel Cain wants to raise money to help get his uncle back on his feet, after he was robbed while out at the Cheltenham Festival with his family.

When he returned home later that day, the doors on the van had been drilled and his tools taken.

A landscaper got the fright of life when he dug up a suspected old World War II bomb while working in Dartford. 

The area was evacuated for several hours while bomb squad experts were called to the scene.

Bobby Moulson, who runs Abfab Landscapes said they discovered the device while putting in a fence.

Moulson told his local paper, he thought he’d initially dug up an old tin bath.
