AUDIO NEWS: Police issue another tool theft warning and campaigns want solar panels as standard on new builds

Thames Valley Police is warning tradespeople to take care of their tools after a spate of robberies in the Cherwell area. 

A statement from police said it had recently recovered tools and returned them with their owner. However, “not everyone is so fortunate,” said the statement.

It urged tradespeople to mark their power tools and keep an inventory of their serial numbers so they prove ownership in the event of them being stolen and recovered.

Environmental experts are urging the government to make solar panels mandatory for all new build homes as part of the Future Homes Standard.

The Future Homes Standard, which is due to be legislated in 2025, will require developers to reduce carbon emissions from new builds by 75-to-80%, compared with current standards.

A recent public poll by MCS Foundation, claimed that over 90% of respondents wanted new homes to be built to the highest possible energy efficiency standard.

Tyler Mudie, a 19-year-old bricklayer from Newcastle has been crowned the Young Builder of the Year, by Youth Build UK.

Mudie, who recently completed his Level 2 Bricklaying Apprenticeship at a National House Building Council (NHBC) training hub, picked up his prize at a ceremony at the House of Commons.

According to his teachers, Mudie is a great example of what can be achieved through the training programme.
