AUDIO NEWS: Laws banning gas heating systems won't start until 2027 and over a third tradies' don't think asbestos is dangers

Posted: Thursday, November 14th, 2024

Legislation banning gas central heating systems as part of a ‘future homes standard’ is unlikely to come into force until 2027.

The Labour government hopes to present final guidance on the gas heating phase out early next year and introduce legislation by May, according to a report in The Financial Times.

However, it is likely to be another two years before laws come into effect.

Climate policy think tank E3G estimates the delays mean that 700,000 homes would be built with heating systems that will need replacing.

Nearly 50% of those involved in the poll, admitted they had insufficient asbestos training.

Dr Richard Anderson, head of learning & development at High Speed Training said there was need for “better awareness” among tradespeople, their families and the general public about the dangers of asbestos.
