AUDIO NEWS: Landscaper plants flowers in potholes and builders find hidden note in National Gallery

Posted: Friday, September 13th, 2024

A landscaper has started turning potholes into flower beds to draw attention to the ‘state of Sussex’ roads.

22-year-old Harry Smith-Haggett has filled in around 40 potholes with soil and flowers in the Horsham area, near to where he lives.

Smith-Haggett told ITV that he was sick of hitting potholes and by filling them with flowers he might make some people smile.

His videos on TikTok of him filling in the potholes have generated over 2.5 million videos.

Construction output fell in July for the first time in two months, according to the latest government figures.

The dip in output was blamed on a drop off in new work, and the repair and maintenance sectors.

The broader economy also stagnated in July, with zero growth in the GDP.

Clive Docwra, managing director of McBains said the dip in output was a concern, particularly as private commercial orders remained strong.

But despite the absence of a post-election bounce, Docwra said the industry remained optimistic due to the government’s house building plans.

Builders knocking down a column in the National Gallery were surprised to discover a letter thanking them for demolishing the “unnecessary” pillar

The typed note, which was found in the gallery’s Sainsbury Wing, dated back to the 1990s and was from John Sainsbury, former chairman of the supermarket chain, and major supporter of the gallery.
