AUDIO NEWS: HSE reports 51 fatalities in the last year and industry growth expected to return in 2025

There were 51 fatal injuries in the construction sector over the last year ­­­­— that’s according to HSE stats published last week. 

The figure is a 20% increase on the average annual number of industry fatalities over the last five years.

The annual report estimated the industry lost more than 400,000 working days due to injury in 2023/24.

It also said there were 14,000 construction workers suffering from work-related stress, depression or anxiety, which accounted for 18% of all ill-health in the sector.

Glenigan is predicting a boom in the construction sector is just around the corner!

The data analysis firm claimed the good times will start to roll next year with growth of industry output hitting 8%, before increasing to 10% in 2026.

Glengian’s data suggests that the number of project starts has stabilised since the general election in July and that private sector work is on the rise.

The firm’s economic director Alan Wilen was upbeat about the economic outlook regardless of the widely held pessimism in the industry about the Autumn Budget.
