The Plumbing & Heating Federation (PHF) has dismissed targets outlined by the Climate Change Committee (CCC) as “completely detached from reality.” Last week the government committee said that half of all homes must use a low carbon heating system – mainly heat pumps – by 2040. It also said that new and replacement home heating installations must have low carbon systems by 2035. The Plumbing & Heating Federation highlighted that without a trained workforce to install heat pumps the CCC’s recommendations were “empty ambitions.” Fiona Hodgson, chief executive of the federation said: “Heat pump adoption cannot be driven by wishful thinking.” --- The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is planning a major advertising campaign to attract new entrants into the industry. Last week the training body put out a £2.1 million tender for media planning and buying services to support its “strategic marketing objectives.” A statement from the CITB said a significant portion of its media buying goes towards the promotion of its Go Construct platform that “provides resources for people considering a career in construction.” --- An apprentice bricklayer is encouraging other teenagers to join the trades. Leeanna started her apprenticeship with Redrow after completing her GCSEs. The 17-year-old was inspired to join the industry by her brother who also studied bricklaying. She told BBC Kent: “If you’re passionate about it, don’t let anything hold you back.” --- To listen to the construction news please click below
