The government promised to deliver the biggest building boom in a generation, as its planning reform legislation started its journey through parliament this week. The Planning and Infrastructure Bill includes measures to speed up planning decisions and housebuilding by removing avenues for legal challenges. Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner described the bill as a “major step forward in getting Britain building again and unleashing economic growth”. She claimed The Planning and Infrastructure Bill would “unleash seismic reforms to help builders get shovels in the grounder quicker to build more homes and vital infrastructure.” --- Workloads and business enquiries have dropped for roofers – that’s according to quarterly figures from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors. The poll of NFRC members showed that workloads were down by nearly 30% in the North West and South West of the country. London and the southern counties reported a 20% drop in workloads. New business enquiries dropped by 18% across the UK. --- The number of women signing up for courses at some of the UK’s biggest building colleges is on the rise, claims research from Travis Perkins. In the report City of Glasgow College led the way, with women making up nearly 22% of all trade course enrolments, an increase of 4% in the last year.
