The government must do more to reduce the cost of heat pumps, claims research from consumer website Which? The site’s annual sustainability tracker found that 71% of homeowners who knew about heat pumps thought they were too expensive. The figure has remained static despite an increase in government subsidies to encourage people to adopt heat pumps. The report claims only 2% of homeowners have a heat pump, while just over half said they were aware of what they are. Sue Davies, Which, head of consumer rights, and food policy said: “It’s clear there is work to be done to address the barriers preventing consumers from switching to the more sustainable alternatives.” --- A builder was left paralysed and stranded on the floor for six hours, after a fall from height. 51-year-old Andrew Clifford was eventually found by a delivery driver. Clifford had been working alone installing first-floor joists on a housing job in Derbyshire, when the accident occurred. The contractor, Paul Freeman Ltd has since been prosecuted by HSE. --- Councils in England have raised over £1 billion in parking fees and charges in the 2023/24 financial year – that’s according to analysis from The AA.
