January’s 0.2% drop in construction output has only contributed to growing concern about the health of the industry. However, the 0.4% growth in the repair and maintenance sector in the same month is an encouraging sign, said Brian Berry, chief executive of trade association. “Local builders… need a stable economic climate to grow,” he added. --- Schneider Electric is doubling its intake of military veterans as it looks to address the UK skills shortage. The vendor’s Veterans Talent Programme aims to equip people leaving the military with the industry knowledge and technical skills needed for operational and leadership roles. The 12-to-18-month programme offers students a full salary and combination of classroom-based courses and hands-on industry experience. Opening applications for this year’s intake, Schneider Electric said it is looking for potential and passion, rather than technical skills. --- A Northampton builder has won a £60,000 car, with a 4p competition raffle ticket.
