Faulty equipment or tools has been cited as the most common cause of injuries on site, in research by Markel Direct. In the poll of 300 tradespeople, nearly 40% also blamed a lack of PPE and poor safety regulations as common causes for injury. Around 41% of those who had been injured claimed it was the result of a third party, such as a co-work. The survey also found that head injuries and concussions were the most common type of injury. Rob Rees, divisional director at Markel Direct said: “Taking adequate health and safety precautions is key to staying safe.” --- Despite the government’s injection of £600 million to train another 60,000 tradespeople, the numbers do not go far enough, warned the Federation of Master Builders. The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) estimates the industry needs another 250,000 tradespeople by 2028 to fulfil current demand.
