Faulty equipment or tools has been cited as the most common cause of injuries on site, in research by Markel Direct.

In the poll of 300 tradespeople, nearly 40% also blamed a lack of PPE and poor safety regulations as common causes for injury.

Around 41% of those who had been injured claimed it was the result of a third party, such as a co-work.

The survey also found that head injuries and concussions were the most common type of injury.

Rob Rees, divisional director at Markel Direct said: “Taking adequate health and safety precautions is key to staying safe.”
