AUDIO NEWS: Changes to CSCS scheme could result in fewer labourers on site and landscaper gets van stolen

Posted: Friday, November 1st, 2024

Major changes to the CSCS skills card scheme could mean fewer labourers on site from February.

Under the revised programme, the initial labourers’ card will be reduced from five to two years and new entrants to the industry will be encouraged to sign up for the CSCS trainee red card, where they can continue their skills development.

Garry Mortimer, executive director of operations at CSCS said the changes to the scheme better aligned it with competency expectations introduced by the Building Safety Act.

Friends and family of a landscaper have started a GoFundMe page to raise £2,500 after his van and tools were stolen outside the family home.

Jake Bourne woke last week to find his Mitsubishi van taken from his drive. He has since been relying on lifts to get to and from work, and borrowing tools to complete jobs.

The Studley-based tradesman told his local paper that it was the second time his van had been nicked and it had hit him and his family “really hard”.

And finally, Cameron Menzies, the plumber turned darts player won his first PDC-ranked title in Leicester last week.

The former tradesman beat Stephen Bunting 8-4, to claim the £15,000 prize money.

Menzies shot to fame last year when he posted on social media about fixing a broken sink before shooting off to play in the first round of the World Darts Championship.
