A builder who created a giant stone gargoyle of a council leader and stuck it on his roof as part of a planning row, has vowed to keep it, even if he is jailed. The argument started when Michael Thomas’ plan to convert a former pizza takeaway into a three storey, multi-occupancy house, was rejected by deputy mayor of Trowbridge Town Council, Steward Palmen. 73-year-old Thomas took revenge by adding the gargoyle of councillor Palmen to the roof of his house. As the trail date over the planning row approaches, Thomas has doubled down on this commitment to keep the statue. --- Construction growth stalled again in October – that’s according to a poll of construction purchasing managers. S&P’s UK Purchasing Managers Index dropped three points from September to 54.3, as the new house building sector contracted.
