Over 80% of respondents also said that theft from a van was as serious as burglary from an office, despite carrying weaker sentences. In the survey of 2,000 people, more than half agreed that community orders were an insufficient punishment for tool theft. Direct Line released its survey ahead of the second reading of a tool theft sentencing bill, due to happen in parliament today. Mark Summerville, at Direct Line Business Insurances said the research revealed strong support among the public for stricter penalties for tool theft. --- Research from Schneider Electric into local electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure identified major shortcomings with charger monitoring and maintenance. The study of 67 local councils found that just 15% reported 100% charger availability, while over half admitted they were unable to monitor charger status or availability. Local councils have installed over 2,500 public charging devices in the last year. --- Three roofers are travelling from Lands End to John O’Groats in a miniature 1950s style coach.
