AUDIO NEWS: BiKBBI calls for more government action and electrician takes on world boxing champ

The government needs to offer more support for micro and small businesses to take on apprentices – that’s according to trade body BiKBBI.

Earlier this month the government announced plans to waive basic maths and English qualifications and cut the minimum time of apprenticeships to just eight months, as it seeks to get more ‘boots on the ground’.

BiKBBI CEO, Damian Walters said: The current workforce is the key to solving the skills shortage. Unless the Government can do more to accommodate the needs of the thousands of micro and small businesses… nothing will change going forward”.

In a story right from the pages of Rocky, part-time electrician Josh Padley will face Shakur Steveson for his WBC lightweight world title.

Padley shot to prominence last year when he stepped in with just eight weeks notice to fight Mark Chamberlain on the undercard at Wembley Stadium.

He will now jet off to Saudi Arabia to prepare to fight Steveson – widely regarded as one of the best fighters on the planet.

A former joiner has got funding for life-changing medical treatment in Mexico.

Graham Mackay, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2024, has been trying to raise £55,000 for the stem cell treatment.

After selling his van, organising a host of local fundraises and scores of public donations he hit the magical number earlier this week.
