AUDIO NEWS: Anti-tool theft protest planned for February and Band Builders finish work for roofer

Posted: Tuesday, January 7th, 2025

Trades United is bringing together tradespeople for a second go-slow protest about tool theft in early February.

Starting from Brent Cross a convoy of trade vans will drive throughout London to amplify calls for stronger deterrents against thieves and more effective measures to combat the sale of stolen tools.

The initial protest held in June last year, helped kickstart mass tool-marking events with the Metropolitan Police and convince some large car-boot sales to ban the sale of ‘second hand’ tools.

Shoaib Awan, founder of Trades United said the protest on the 3rd February would show the new government “the distress these thieves and car boot sales have caused”.

Band of Builders has completed work on the house of a roofer who fell 8 metres and was left with life-changing injuries.

Jim Gallacher’s fall left him unable to complete the extension he had started at his property.

20 volunteers from Band of Builders finished the work just before Christmas.

A mural made entirely of local slate has been unveiled in Blaenau Ffestiniog, a town in Gwynedd, Wales.

The artwork, created by local firm Original Roofing Company depicts a school mistress from the 1900s who travelled to work on the quarry’s incline railway.

The mural installed on a gable end on the Beatons building, is one several projects telling the history of the slate industry in the area.
