Posted: Thursday, December 12th, 2024

Nearly all social landlords have mould issues across their housing stock – that’s according to research from Zehnder Group.

In the survey, one in ten landlords said mould affects over half of their housing remit.

The report highlighted that the majority of landlords didn’t understand the root causes of mould.

Just 29% of respondents were dealing with the issue with an expert or installing better ventilation, while others were following ‘generalist advice’ that failed to address the issue.

A worrying 42% of landlords said that mould was “simply down to the weather”.

Independent roofing inspectors are needed to guarantee higher standards of work and safety standards, claims MCRMA.

The trade body believes inspectors have a vital role to play in resolving issues between clients and customers.

Carlton Jones, director with MCRMA said: “independent inspectors are almost always the go to specialists when things go wrong on a project.”

Band of Builders has finished its latest project, bringing heating and hot water back to the home of a former bricklayer.

54-year-old Lee Taverner has been unable to work since developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), after spending three weeks in a coma with COVID.

He and his small family have been without heating for the last three years.

Lee said: “having a warm home is going to be a life changer for my family.”
