High workloads will mean that 86% of tradespeople will have limited time off over the festive break – that’s according to research from Direct Line Business Insurance. The survey claims that nearly a third of tradespeople will not see loved ones at all over Christmas, while another 37% will not have as much time off as they’d have liked. Only half of the tradies that intend to work over the festive break, plan to charge an increased rate. Mark Summerville, product manager at Direct Line Business Insurance said many tradespeople would be working overtime to “save Christmas for households and businesses by ensuring projects are completed on time”. --- Roofing contractors are having increasing trouble getting paid, claims a report from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC). The proportion of roofers not getting paid within 45 days of completion rose to 39% in the third quarter – up 10% from the previous quarter. There has been a steady increase in late payments since the NFRC started to survey members in 2020. --- Tradespeople are being warned to take extra security precautions to protect vans and tools ahead of the festive break. Vans and tools sat idle over Christmas will make a tempting target for thieves, claim experts from Quotezone.co.uk. Quotezone CEO Greg Wilson said the firm’s research showed a “huge increase in tool theft from previous year”. --- To listen to the construction news please click below
