AUDIO NEWS: 20% of sole traders don't take holidays and Labour promises to push through planning problems

Nearly a fifth of small business owners and sole traders take no holiday – that according to research from Direct Line Business Insurance. 

The report also suggested that sole traders took on average of just 13 days off a year, despite over a third acknowledging the importance of having a holiday.

Even if they get away, over a quarter said they felt guilty for taking time off, and 30% said they found it hard to switch off.

Half of those surveyed admitted to taking work calls and responding to emails while away.

Labour has vowed to push through planning permission for 300,000 new homes

Angela Rayner, the deputy PM, and housing secretary has said she will parachute in Whitehall officials to push through hundreds of stalled projects, saying that she has a “moral obligation” to intervene on stalled projects. 

Rayner asked developers to flag projects that are moving too slowly, so a central task force can “knock heads together.” 

Labour’s plan to build 1.5 million homes during the next parliament is central to the government’s plan to boost economic growth.

A US plumber stepped in to help an 80-year-old woman who was being robbed last week. 

Damon Koler, grabbed a baseball bat and started swinging when he saw Ruth Dalton, being car-jacked.

Koler told a local news outlet: That “when things happen like that… you can’t help but be personally involved.”
