The electrical sector needs greater regulation to improve safety standards.

Speaking earlier this week, Alan Wilson, managing director of Select repeated his call to add electricians to the list of regulated professions.

By making all electricians a professional standard, Select believes it will improve safety standards.

Wilson sold the Independent Minds podcast: “Electrical work is so complex that it is more important than ever to know that systems are safe and that those working on them are properly trained and qualified. It needs to be a profession.”

Although still short of details, the Labour Party intends to introduce five golden rules for the development of grey belt land, such as disused car parks, petrol stations and other urban infrastructure, within green belt areas.

Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB said: “Unlocking small sites could present significant opportunities and these proposals must be supported with increased funding to empower local authority planning departments.”

21-year-old Joel Poole will set off on 2 May and run a route around Liverpool for the next week.

Last year, Joel raised nearly £6,000 for Cash for Kids by completing the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours.
